Christmas Picture Fun

So Brandon and I are driving down I-5 as I type. We are headed to Holiday Youth convention in SoCal where Brandon is speaking during the day and I am tagging along for fun…SANS KIDS! Ha. My mom in law graciously agreed to watch them so I could get away… Love her! I don’t get to go with him very often when he speaks out so this is a nice little treat. 🙂

Anyway, I have been receiving many wonderful picture emails and facebook tags of so many of you sporting Evy’s Tree during the holidays, particularly on Christmas eve or Christmas Day. I’m shocked and honored that so many of you actually wore them on such a special holiday! Well, my dear friend SoShawna and I were chatting on the phone yesterday about all these pictures and she came up with a great idea… Let’s show those pictures off and have a contest!

So its embarrassing, but the above picture is pretty much the best I can do. Ha! All our photos are of the kids ripping into presents like wild people and us running around after them. This must have been one moment I was able to sit down and relax, sort if, ha.

Anyway, I wore the Grace wrap on Christmas Eve and my Pink Polka Dot Brilla on Christmas Day. How about you? What did you wear?

So here’s what we’re going to do: you send in your picture of you wearing your Evy’s Tree hoodie on Christmas Eve or Christmas day(or really anytime during the Christmas season), It could be of you or your child. Email your picture, along with your NAME, CITY AND STATE to evystree@gmail.com. You have until the 30th at 10 AM PST to get your pictures to me. Everyday this week I will do a blog post with the pictures I receive until I run out of pictures.

Now here’s where the contest part comes in: as I am pretty positive that all your pictures are perfect in every way, I’m not going to ask that we vote on whose picture is the best, BUT we are going to vote. And here’s how… When I blog your picture, it is your turn to promote it and ask all your friends to vote. Your friends have three days to vote on your picture and then the voting will be closed for your picture. Your friends can vote daily and the person’s picture who has the most votes at the end of the contest will get a $40 credit towards anything in the shop.

And what’s in it for your friends? Well they get a chance to win too! All voters will get their name put in a drawing for a matching $40 credit like the winners. If your friends want to increase their chances of winning, they can become a follower of this blog or become a fan on facebook and then leaving a SEPARATE comment for each one stating that they have become (or already are) a follower/fan.

Savvy?? Sorry, son obsessed with pirate talk so a lot of it going on of it around here, ha.

So get to it…start emailing me those pictures! And oh, just found one decnt picture of me and Brandon holding a very random gift from his grandma which we all agreed was the coolest most urban outfitter look alike without even meaning to be one gift out there…a clay bust of Jesus!

Looking forward to seeing those pictures! Xoxo

Pink Polka Dot Brilla GIVEAWAY!!

Well, first things first….
What do you think about my “new” blog?? Isn’t it amazing? My incredibly talented graphic designer, Brooke, of Right Left Studios redid it for me. My husband is going to reroute evystree.com to this blog instead of my etsy store. For now this blog will take place of a website of sorts, until I actually get a website, which Brooke and I are working on and should have done by the middle of next year… *we hope*!!
Anyway, I rely heavily on Facebook to promote Evy’s Tree. For the last year, Facebook has been super helpful to me to send out minute by minute info regarding listings, new items, etc. This blog has been a bit ignored. But in celebration of the new look and in hopes of promoting evystree.com to a larger audience, I am going to start doing monthly giveaways here on the blog, and try to be more consistent with posting new items beings listed, hopefully weekly.
So please follow along this blog, and stay tuned for lots of excitement in the months to follow!! 🙂
And now for our first official giveaway on our new blog:
The Pink Polka Dot Brilla!

I am very sad to announce that after taking a trip down to L.A. and visiting the shop where I bought literally almost a hundred yards of this pink polka dot material, that there is no more to be found! 😦 I am hoping that some will show up sometime again in the future, but for now, I have about 30 more hoodies left in various sizes. My team is working very hard to get a count by the Day After Christmas Sale where EVERYTHING I have left in this hoodie will be listed.
The good news is: if you win this giveaway, I will save enough material to make one hoodie of your size choice!! So if you don’t snag one on the Day After Christmas, then you will have a chance to get one. Or if you do snag one, you can get a matching one for your daughter, your sister, your mom, your friend…the list goes on. I promise, almost everyone I know loves this hoodie. It’s really sooo adorable on!
So here’s how you can enter:
please leave ONE comment for every one you do
1. Leave a comment telling me who you would like to give this hoodie to if you win {or if you will keep it for yourself! :)}
2. Become a follower of this blog, or state you already are. If you are a follower, your picture will show up on the sidebar under followers.
3. Blog about this giveaway
4. Tweet about this giveaway {can be done daily, just be sure to come back and comment every day}
5. Facebook a link to this giveaway {can also be done daily, just be sure to come back and comment each time you do it!}
Giveaway will end December 25, Christmas Day, at 11:59 PM. I will announce the winner the day after Christmas before I reopen the shop for the Day After Christmas Sale!!
This is a quick giveaway…so get started!!
xoxo

Best Day Ever!

I had the most amazing day.
It started at 3 AM.
No joke.
At 3 AM, Brandon and I finally finished MOST of our 250 Christmas cards! I say most because tonight I found one more page of labels I had left out, so those will be in the mail tomorrow! ugh.
Anyway, at 3 AM we fell lifeless into bed.
At 3:38 AM, unbeknownst to me, my phone started ringing. I was so tired that I never heard it. My home phone and my cell phone rang off the hook for 3 hours while the entire family slept comatose. When our alarm went off at 7 I checked my phone and I saw all the missed calls and received this text message:
“I’m going to the hospital…please come and call me when you can.”
It was from my dear friend Joy. You might remember this picture from this post:
The couple on the right are our very good friends Joy and Thaddeus with us at our wedding. Joy and Brandon went to school together from grade school on and Joy and I have been close friends for almost 10 years. In fact for one year we lived together in a cute little apartment with my 19 year old cat Baby…which created many wonderful stories  that I should blog about sometime {ahem beware Thaddeus, Brandon, and Glenn}.
Anyway, Joy is pregnant with her second child, a little girl. And she is due the last week of December. Joy asked me if I would be in the room when the baby was born and be a support to her and Thaddeus. I was soo very honored, but bummed as Brandon and I are supposed to be in L.A. that week for this conference.  I told Joy that she needed to go into labor on December 21 so I could be there.
And guess what?!? The baby listened!!
I was able to throw some clothes on, get Brandon’s mom to come over, and drive the hour and a half to the city to be with Joy when the baby was born.
It was by far the most amazing experience EVER!!
Even though I have given birth to two kids, and have been the labor and delivery room with many women, I have never actually seen with my own eyes a baby being born. If you have, then you know the miracle it is. SO AMAZING. I cried. It was beautiful.
Welcome Chloe Grace!!

 Proud Daddy and his princess…
Such a beautiful moment. Snuggling with her baby. The picture brings tears to my eyes.
Thank you Joy and Thaddeus for asking me to be with you today. It was a beautiful day, one I will never forget. Love you guys so much!!

And then….

I drove home as fast as I could because I had a date with this:
Christmas Sugar Cookies!!!
Jake and I had planned to make my Nannie’s Sugar cookies today and he wanted his cousin Scout to come over and help him. So the plan was to start baking around 4…well, since I was still in the city, Grandma, Auntie Bryony and the kids baked them without me and when I walked in the door we whipped up the frosting and got busy. Here is what you will need to make my Nannie’s amazing Sugar Cookies:
Thelma Schuster’s Sugar Cookies
Apparently Thelma is some distant cousin?!? Forgot to ask Nannie! ugh.

1 C. Unsalted butter – room temp
1 C. Sugar
Combine above together, beating well.

1 egg
5 Tablespoons of milk
1 teas of vanilla
mix together in separate bowl.

3 C. All purpose flour
1 teas baking soda
1/2 teas salt
mix together in separate bowl.
Blend all ingredients together until smooth. Put ball of dough in saran wrap and place in refrigerator for several hours or overnight. Cut into shapes and cook at 350 for 6 mins until very lightly brown. I cut mine at about 1/4″ thick.
WATCH CAREFULLY. They burn easily.
Frosting

Two boxes of powdered Sugar
Milk
Food Coloring

Start with this:
Then make the frosting by mixing coloring, sugar and milk until you get a nice thick texture.

You don’t want it to be too runny, as Bryony is demonstrating. It will never dry on the cookies and fall right off the dough.
Our colors:
Excited kids are a must:

Start decorating…
Grandma’s turned out awesome!

Sugar Highs

Some of the first finished products:

And some more….
I put the cookies in a tin, covered in saran wrap, into the freezer and save these for Christmas Day. They are so much fun to pull out and remember who made who. And I promise you, they might look a little scary, but they are SO SO GOOD!!
Even my resident blog photographer {that would be my brother in law David} said they were awesome. I believe his words were something like, “This frosting is so good I drink it!” ha.
Thank you to my family and my dear friends fro making this day a day to remember!! Love you all!!

Christmas Cards

So this is going to be quick and pictureless imagine that! ha…
But I am sitting here staring at my very large box of Christmas cards that I lugged all the way to our family vacation in L.A. last week to fill out during the car ride…which never happened. So I am determined to get these addressed and off by Monday. Tonight will be a late night-er, filled with hot cocoa, Christmas music and writers cramp. ha.
My Christmas card is ALWAYS a nice card with a picture of my family attached to the top cover. Whichever picture we pick to use as our Christmas card picture dictates whatever card I purchase. We send out {please don’t faint} about 225-250 cards each year. Blame it on Brandon’s GIANT family. So whatever card we pick needs to be cost efficient as well as attractive.

Target has these great boxes of 40 cards for $14 which is even better than Costco’s boxed card selection. But this year I noticed that Target had VERY little to choose from. And the fact that our picture is horizontal instead of vertical really made it harder as it seems that most of the pretty Christmas cards out there are vertical.

SOOO… my point:

For years Brandon has begged me to upload my photos and get photo cards. Call me an old timer, but I just object to that. I guess a Christmas card to me is a “card”. Don’t get me wrong, I love to receive the photo cards, they are so cute and I put them up on my fridge proudly. But I just LOVE cards. And I can’t tell you how many houses we have visited and people have taken our picture off the card and framed it or still have it up on their fridge sans card. I guess I kinda consider the picture a little gift to all those we love. And I really love being able to sign a nice personal message as well. {Never mind that last year I mixed so many people’s up. I kept getting calls like, “Thank you for the Christmas card, even though it was addressed to so and so” ha.}

But this year, oh wow. The photo cards we have been receiving are UNBELIEVABLE!! My friend Jenni {who’s card was outstanding!} shared Shutterfly with us on her blog and it was very tempting. But I had already bought the cards and got the pictures printed. 😦 And have you seen Robert and Cheyennes?? Seriously amazing. And our friends the Rivas…spectacular card!

So I can’t believe I am saying this, but it looks like this will be the last year for the Miraflor traditional Christmas card. My poor hand just can’t really keep up with the personal comments, and besides it looks like everyone else likes the photo card instead.

Am I right? Speak now or forever hold your peace! ha. I am very interested in your thoughts…photo card or traditional card?
xoxo
